Developer of the Pille bulb dosimeters deceased

Istvan Fehér, chemist, founder and former head of the Radiation Protection Department at KFKI, Development Lead of the first Pille thermoluminescent space dosimeter system, deceased on the 17th October 2017.

István (for many of his colleagues Pista or Pista bácsi) worked more than half a century in the field of radiation protection and was active until the last day of his life. Among many of his outstanding achievements, we mention here only the two most important ones: establishing the environmental radiation control system of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant and developing the bulb dosimeter of the Pille thermoluminescent space dosimeter system. This type of dosimeter is used also to this day on board the International Space Station.

Friends, family, and co-workers gathered at Farkasréti Cemetery in Budapest on the 3rd of November to pay their last respects to the probably most recognized expert in the field of radiation protection in Hungary.
