This year’s Day of Space Research was organized on the 17th October by the Hungarian Astronautical Society (MANT) at the Headquarters of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Results of our research group were also presented.
Participants of this space week event were first welcomed by vice president of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, József Bokor followed by the opening of the Day of Space Research by astronomer and renowned SETI researcher, Iván Almár, honorary president of the Hungarian Astronautical Society. The first talk was given by MANT secretary general Attila Hirn, head of our research group, on this year’s activity of the society. After the MANT Awards Ceremony the technical programme of the event was opened with the theme “The 20-year-old International Space Station (ISS)” focusing on the Hungarian participation in the ISS programme with several instruments and experiments. Our research group is among the ones with the biggest space heritage in Hungary and it joined very early to international space dosimetry projects conducted aboard the ISS. In her talk, Andrea Strádi, research scientist of our research group presented the list of missions we participated and the instruments developed by our colleagues, with which we could contribute to the safety of the crew on board ISS, starting with the first measurements with Pille in 2001 on ISS until nowadays. This year’s Day of Space Research was also honoured by the presence of the Ministerial Commissioner for Space Research and Space Activities Orsolya Ferencz, who presented the results of the Department for Space Activities achieved since November 2018.
